For the Sake of Environmental History: Socio-Environmental Relations in Popular, Late Medieval, Slavic and Scandinavian Tales

This work, part of my final degree project, is conceived from the perspective of Environmental History. The intention of this article is to give an account of the relationship between natural conditions (present in the Arctic Circle) and social and wonderful values (in this case, the concept of death) in Russian folk tales collected by Afanasiev and in the Kalevala, collected by Lönnrot in Finland. Accompanying the comparative analysis are historiographical reflections on the role of Environmental History.
