Abstract

The purpose of this research is to generate a theoretical construct of emotional intelligence as a skill to optimize Venezuelan customs management. The following points were developed: emotional intelligence, management and the Venezuelan customs system, all under the interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative approach for the generation of theory, exploring the lives and meanings of the key actors in the customs area. The technique used was the in-depth interview, which allowed an open dialogue. On the other hand, the selection of the sample was based on their experience as managers in the Venezuelan customs. Likewise, the research was developed in three stages: descriptive, structural and integration of results. Thus, the interviews were analyzed, extracting key points from each participant and generating categorizations for the categorical content matrices, then other emerging categories were included, known as derived, which are combined with other fundamental ones to form a relational map. The research was validated through a methodological approach that converges data sources, theories and researcher perspectives for the definitive theory. Finally, the Theory for Emotional Intelligence Management as a Skill to Optimize Venezuelan Customs Management (GINTEMOCIÓN), addresses the importance of emotions at work in the customs sector, seeking to improve labor relations, decision-making and efficiency, which understands reality and human experience, and seeks to improve management in the customs field through the development of emotional intelligence and promotion of values such as respect, diversity and commitment.
