The following investigation aims to understand the political and strategic relevance which the emerging figure of Procopius Anthemios had for the Empire as a whole and in moments of true crisis for West, and also as a peace guarantee. To investigate the circumstances surrounding his rise to the throne, political decisions, his relationship with the pars occidentis court and the
implications of his reign in pars orientis constitute the main objective of this study. With this purpose, the previous events that preluded to this stage will be analyzed, which framed his designation as well as his historical performance until his fall.
