The background of Meister Eckhart's mystical-philosophical thought in the rhenish-flemish zone in the 13th and 14th centuries
Keywords:
Eckhart, Rhenish mysticism, metaphysics, medieval history, medieval philosophyAbstract
This article focuses on the historical and intellectual context that preceded Meister Eckhart as a mystic and metaphysician in the region known as Rhenish-Flemish during the 13th and 14th centuries. In that period various mystical conceptions emerged, developed by various authors, who coincided, to a greater or lesser extent, in bringing mystical positions closer to the intellectual thought of the time. In this sense, it can be considered that Rhenish mysticism reaches its peak with the thought of Meister Eckhart, who establishes a metaphysical system that bases his formulation of mystical union, which responds to the great problems of his own time, both intellectual and religious.
