Una vida latina de Santa Osith poco estudiada Edición crítica y traducción al español

El presente trabajo ofrece la edición crítica y la primera traducción al español de la vida latina de santa Osith conservada en el manuscrito London, British Library, Lansdowne 436, conocido como “Legendario de Romsey”. Esta Vita sanctae Osithae constituye una versión abreviada del texto transmitido por el manuscrito Oxford, Bodleian Library, Bodley 285. En el estudio introductorio se examina la posición de esta redacción dentro de la tradición latina dedicada a la virgen y mártir anglosajona, así como su relación con otras reelaboraciones, desde el textus deperditus atribuido a William de Vere hasta las versiones de los breviarios de Hereford y Worcester. El análisis comparativo de los dos testimonios principales revela que el texto del Legendario de Romsey reduce considerablemente su modelo, mediante supresiones, simplificaciones y reformulaciones léxicas que responden a un proceso deliberado de abbreviatio hagiográfica. Tales procedimientos responden a una estrategia de compilación coherente con el carácter del códice y con el contexto monástico femenino en el que se produjo. El estudio permite observar cómo las prácticas de abreviación y reescritura contribuyeron a la transmisión y adaptación de la materia hagiográfica en la Inglaterra posterior a la conquista normanda, y cómo ciertos modelos de santidad femenina fueron reinterpretados en los legendarios monásticos del siglo XIV. La edición y traducción que acompañan este trabajo ofrecen por primera vez un acceso filológicamente fundamentado a esta versión de la Vita sanctae Osithae y amplían el conocimiento de la hagiografía latina y de sus mecanismos de circulación textual en el Occidente medieval.
