Abstract

This article presents a bibliographical background on violence against children throughout the history of mankind. It proposes a reflection on childhood and adolescence through different historical periods. This was carried out by means of a narrative review of the literature through different databases with the aim of compiling theoretical, historical, and cultural background to guide the discussion. It is concluded that violence against children is a complex, multicausal phenomenon that has accompanied humanity throughout its history. It is necessary to prioritize and give urgency to measures aimed at the promotion and prevention of violence against children.
