Abstract

The article explores the evolution and consolidation of distance education management
in the Argentine higher education system and the impact of the exponential growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in universities. Since the 1990s, various ministerial resolutions
have been approved differentiating distance education from in-person education. The most
relevant regulations for the regulation of distance education and its evaluation will be
analyzed, which have generated a significant reorganization in universities, creating new
management structures and adaptation to advanced technologies. The consolidation of
distance education systems allows us to investigate the impact of AI as a challenge and an
opportunity. Finally, the regulatory evolution and its relationship with AI will be delved
into, highlighting the need for possible regulation that guarantees quality, equity and ethical
use.
