Abstract

This article is part of the transformations currently experienced, regarding the traditional patriarchal role in raising children, moving towards the configuration of a co-parenting characterized by its progressive and active involvement of men and women in a similar way in the breeding. The study deals with a qualitative observation with a biographical design of four biparental nuclear families from urban sectors of the city of Chillán, which has used the Semi-structured Interview as an information gathering strategy, for the subsequent treatment of the data through the Content Analysis. The objectives of this study lead to the unveiling of the experience that these fathers and mothers manifest around the process of co-parenting.

The results show that, for the most part, parental communication is open, in addition, parental support is perceived as an emotional containment towards the couple, evidenced in various actions, to which is added cooperation in housework, care for the other and the way of communicating that allows making decisions to generate agreements in the upbringing of children, where balance is also sought within the differences.
