Abstract

Technological advances have changed Teaching/Learning processes and have created
opportunities to include intelligent IoT structures in learning spaces. IoT structures are based on
interrelated hardware and software elements that use MQTT as a communication protocol. This
communication shows the structural design of a Smart Learning Environment prototype that
collects data from the physical environment during the Teaching/Learning process. The first step
in creating an Intelligent Learning Environment is to design context-aware sensors to acquire data
from the environment and report relevant events. The subsequent data analysis shows how it can
relate to the data and the teaching/learning events. Based on the data collected and adaptable rules,
it is possible to understand what is happening in the classroom. Once the teaching/learning events
have been detected, the next step is to generate feedback, send notifications, or generate better
answers to the questions students can ask an intelligent ChatBot. This communication presents
some accurate results obtained in the initial experimental phases developed. From these
experiments, we will propose some rules to detect specific events and subsequently formulate
hypotheses to build subsequent experiments. The design of Intelligent Learning Environments is
an opportunity to continue researching and carrying out developments that can improve
teaching/learning processes in any circumstance.
